CRAIG'S DAKAR ODYSSEY

CRAIG’S DAKAR ODYSSEY: Blog #1

RUST's mate Craig Keyworth is set on riding the 2020 Dakar Rally. He rode the Rallye du Maroc in 2018 and placed third rookie. Now he's headed over to the 2019 Merzouga Rally as a placing in this will qualify him for the big one. So here's a first word from Craig, in his workshop where he hastily – but carefully – completed the prep on his Husqvarna FE450 before hotfooting it down to North Africa... words: RUST images: Rallymaniacs, BMW Motorrad

Welcome to the first vlog from our man Craig Keyworth. If you’ve read RUST #41 (don’t say you haven’t!) then you’ll know his story. After riding the BMW Motorrad International GS Trophy in Mongolia (2018), Craig was looking for a new moto-challenge – and in the spirit of ‘why not!’ he ‘s chosen the biggest there is, the Dakar Rally!

Of course getting to Dakar is an adventure in itself, so we’ll be following his story between blogs here on the website and features in the magazine as he aims to compete in the 2020 edition. And the first step: the 2019 Merzouga Rally. And that’s where Craig is as we write these words. About to start day four, and going well. Point being, a good result in the Merzouga is qualifying result for a Dakar entry.

Now before he left for the Merzouga we got Craig to record a little video for us, so we could see into his world and understand his ambition. And here it is, please cut him some slack on this as it’s his first go at vlogging – although we’ll say he’s done a damn fine job (no worse than we do!). Anyway, enjoy, and do please keep checking in for more updates…
