WHAT IS IT?
A full coverage skid plate for your enduro bike made in tough injection moulded plastic, with linkage guard where appropriate, from dirt bike plastics specialist Polisport.
WHAT’S GOOD ABOUT IT?
One: it’s insanely easy to fit.The rear fitting is moulded into the plate, it simply cups the frame cross-brace. Then there’s just a single quick-release lever-bolt and floating bracket at the front. Fitting time is seconds, barely a minute!
Two: the well thought out cut-outs into the hard injection moulded plastic which has proved to be really durable and well made. The cut-outs allow for plenty of airflow in dry conditions and in wet conditions allow the mud and water to drain from the base of the engine rather than accumulating and trapping both heat and debris.
Three: What may not be immediately noticeable is that plastic, and especially these fortress skid plates with the cut-outs, can flex with your bikes frame and as a result have a lesser impact on the suspension and frame geometry than say a carbon or thick alloy skid plate may have.
Four: Cost! Typically around half the price of a carbon alternative, yet these are really well designed and have in our opinion have one of the best fitment / removal mechanisms on the market right now.
Five: Durability. As far as durability goes we’re impressed. The fortress is really an apt name for the product, both skid plates we’ve been running, with and without linkage guards look almost new even after hours of abuse.
VERDICT:
We had to leave out the ‘what’s not good’ as it’s all good with the Fortress. Great price, simple execution and great performance. We have to fully recommend this product!
